Reimagining What a Healthcare Campus Can Be

MarchLife is designed to be one of the most forward-thinking healthcare communities in Southern California — a place for leading-edge medical research and treatment that brings world-class care closer to home for millions of residents.

The campus will serve as a regional center for medical research and treatment in Southern California. The 3.5 million-square-foot, 236-acre project — the largest private redevelopment in Riverside County history — includes hospital towers, medical office buildings, retail, skilled nursing facilities, a continuing care retirement community, wellness centers, healing gardens, and ambulatory care facilities. MarchLife is fully entitled and shovel ready, with all contemplated developments compliant with existing zoning and density.

The Campus

A Master-Planned Health Community

March Air Force Base was realigned under BRAC in 1996. Of the original 6,700 acres, surplus land was made available for transformative development. MarchLife will serve a peak campus population of up to 18,000 workers and residents — generating 16,000 permanent jobs, 20,000 construction jobs, and a projected tax base of $3.5 billion.

Hospital Towers

Three patient bed towers constructed in multiple phases, serving local, regional, and national communities.

Medical Offices

Leading-edge medical office buildings and ambulatory care facilities supporting a broad spectrum of specialties.

Wellness Centers

Healing gardens, spiritual healing facilities, and dedicated wellness spaces promoting holistic recovery.

Continuing Care

Skilled nursing, independent living, assisted living, Alzheimer's, and hospice care in a continuing community.

Veterans Facility

Dedicated to serving 10,000+ active and retired military veterans in the area with specialized care and rehabilitation.

Research & Retail

Cancer Center of Excellence, Women's Center of Excellence, partnerships with academic research centers, plus integrated retail.

Hospital

A Community of Wellness & Healing

As the cornerstone of the MarchLife Campus, the Inpatient Hospital will serve the ever-growing needs of local, regional, and national communities. Anchored by Riverside Medical Clinic and Universal Health Services — a $12 billion-per-year national hospital operator — the hospital will comprise 500 beds across three patient towers, supported by acute care, behavioral health, rehabilitation, and long-term care.

The facility addresses a critical gap — nearly 56% of inpatients currently leave the service area for healthcare. The service areas within a five-, ten-, and fifteen-mile radius all include federally designated Medically Underserved Areas. With no other acute care hospitals under construction or entitled in the area, MarchLife will transform access to care for millions.

Sustainability

Where Healing Meets Stewardship

Transformative design for the healthcare sector — connecting sustainability to health, pollution prevention, and visionary thinking.

01

Resource Stewardship

Modern healthcare facilities are large consumers of resources and provide an opportunity to reduce consumption while advancing social and economic goals.

02

Design-Driven Outcomes

Design as a tool that drives healthcare outcomes — improving quality and safety, reducing staff turnover, shortening length of stay, and elevating patient satisfaction.

03

High-Performance Healing

Smart development that benefits the community, economy, and environment — high performance healing environments that ultimately reduce the demand for health services.

Heritage

From Air Force Base to Healing Campus

MarchLife is being constructed on surplus land of the former March Air Force Base — one of the oldest airfields operated by the U.S. military since 1918, boasting the longest runway in California.

The 452nd Air Mobility Wing represents the only unit-equipped mobility wing in the Reserve, with KC-135 Stratotankers enabling worldwide missions 365 days a year. The 4th Air Force is headquartered at March ARB — continuing a legacy of service while MarchLife transforms surplus acreage into a world-class destination for healing.

1918

March Field established as one of the oldest airfields operated by the United States military, playing a vital role in national defense.

1996

Realigned under BRAC — converted from active duty to Air Reserve Base, releasing surplus land for transformative development.

2010

Governor Schwarzenegger leads demolition ceremony, calling MarchLife "the first health and wellness city in the world."

Today

MarchLife continues the phased transformation of 236 acres into a comprehensive healthcare campus — delivering regional access to care where it's needed most.
